How to Make 2020 Your Best Year Yet

Happy New Year and thanks for stopping by to read this blog. January feels like a logical time to start over, level up and become the best versions of ourselves! For the past several years a lot of us have been through some very difficult and even painful challenges, but most people that I’ve talked to lately are feeling really optimistic about 2020 and I feel the same way. There’s a new energy in the air that feels really positive and full of amazing potential. Let’s take advantage of this and make this the best year ever!!

It’s easy to make New Years resolutions and even easier to break them. To succeed we need to create a set of habits that help us to achieve our goals. My daughter is very athletic, but she hated long distance running when she was a club soccer player growing up. Years later she is now training to run her first Marathon in 2020. So how did she go from hating running to training to run 26.2 miles? First she committed to running a 5k race. Then she moved up to running many 10k’s and half marathons, and now she is ready to double the distance.

As you can see she did it in logical steps starting with short races and increasing her mileage as she built more strength and confidence. Creating a training plan also helped. Mapping out how many miles she has to run a week and then extending her long run by a mile every seven days helped her create good habits, stamina and discipline.

I used to run marathons, as well, and what they taught me is that I can do anything if I put my mind to it and commit myself to the training. The same is possible for you and whatever it is that you dream of achieving. To do this you have to create a vision and then break it down into achievable steps that give you a sense of certainty. As Tony Robbins says, “If you develop the absolute sense of certainty that powerful beliefs provide, then you can get yourself to accomplish virtually anything.”

9 Tips for Achieving Your Dreams This Year

  1. Dream up your vision and write it down. What do you want to achieve? You don’t have to know how you are going to achieve it, you just have to declare it and step into action. As you progress the pieces will come together when you need them.

  2. Create success habits. Routine behaviors become habits, which then make it easier to achieve your dreams. The hardest part is starting and staying committed to doing the work that will lead to success. Create a schedule for each day and stay true to it. At the bottom of this list is a video that will help you get started by creating strong morning routines.

  3. Do not let distractions and other people derail your objectives for each day. Set aside quiet time in the morning where you are not distracted by phone calls, email and social media. Once you achieve your goals for the day, you can then address the other things that need your attention.

  4. Call upon your spirit guides and angels to assist you. This may feel a bit woo woo, but it works and people who understand this have a edge over people who don’t.

  5. Write down your goals and intentions for the next day before you go to bed each night. That way you will know what you want to achieve when you wake up. This will give you the momentum that you need to start your day strong. You may also receive answers in you dreams to some of the problems that you are trying to solve, so keep a pen and notebook by your bed to write down the solutions as soon as you awaken. It was in a dream that Phil Johnson came up with the name “Nike” for the now famous shoe company and there are many more examples of this.

  6. Take excellent care of your mind, body and spirit. This will give you more energy and confidence to take on new tasks and endeavors.

  7. Do what you love and believe in your mission. The mind is a powerful tool and your thoughts and beliefs will help you conquer the most difficult tasks.

  8. Love yourself! Love is the most powerful force and it all begins with you. With love we can achieve anything.

  9. Envision yourself accomplishing your dreams. It’s no secret that the top athletes in the world envision winning whether it’s crossing the finish line first or throwing the winning touch down pass. This is a powerful tool that is used by high achievers.

Just the other day I rode my bike along side my daughter as she ran 9 miles while training for her marathon. She has envisioned crossing the finish line after 26.2 miles and she has charted out a training plan to achieve this goal injury free. Her spirit is infectious and it makes me want to run the half marathon during her race. Spend time with inspiring people this year. They will naturally make you want to raise your standards. Also commit to making your dreams come true. There is nothing that we can’t achieve when we envision our dreams and commit to achieving them. Let’s all dream big and make 2020 the best year yet!!

Wishing you all the best,

Paul

P.S. - Next week’s blog will be about “Intuitive Eating.” Many people start fad diets this time of year to lose the extra weight from the holidays. The vast majority of diets, however, are not sustainable and end in failure. Come back next week and I’ll share with you my weightless secrets to get you off to a healthy start this year. Thanks again for supporting this blog!
