Numbers are never ending. If you put a dollar amount or weight goal in terms of numbers you will forever chase your goals. Let's talk weight. Are you happy with your current weight? Often I hear friends say that they want to lose 5 pounds. But why a number? I believe it is far more important to feel good than to judge yourself by a number. To me, I know I am at a healthy weight when I can move with ease and lightness, feel energetic and confidant and when my clothes fit comfortably.
I do occassionally step on the scale, but I am not sure why. I am small and fit, however, yes I still have “fat” days. You know those days, the ones where you ate too much the day before, you are bloated and your jeans feel tight. Well, most of the time weight gain is temporary due to water retention from eating too much salt or other factors. And yet if I get on the scale and see my weight has gone up, it normally has a negative effect upon my mind. But why? I know my weight is still below the average for my height so why in the world would that bother me? It is because we all get far too wrapped up in numbers and when that happens we lose sight of what is most important, which is how we feel.
I urge you to tune into your body. Ditch the scale, eat well and move your body. See what happens. A number will never be a lasting source of happiness. Whatever your size, it is incredibly important to love and accept yourself as you are. Also wear clothes that make you feel good. If you want to lose or gain weight, then do so responsibly, loving and accepting yourself throughout the journey.
P.S. - I want to leave you with one last thought. Please love yourself enough to be healthy. Be aware of what you put into your body and how you move. I want everyone to be healthy and live long happy lives. We are not always in control, but we are in control of many things and it is important to put in the effort to respect yourself. Remember, you are NOT your body. You are NOT your thoughts. However, you are dwelling in this body for this life.
